Recent findings show that acupuncture may date all the way back to Stone Age China, but the art we know today probably finds its roots in the first or second century B.C. Though modern medicine has been unable to explain why acupuncture works, Western doctors and scientists do find it to be an acceptable treatment for many human conditions.
The discovery made by the ancients was that basic bodily functions are regulated by an energy they called qi (pronounced chi). Qi flows through the body in channels, called meridians, and the disruption of this flow is what causes disease and pain. Acupuncture is the procedure by which the energy imbalances are corrected with the skilled placement of needles at the proper points (acupuncture points) in the patient's body.
Used in conjunction with moxibustion and the application of Chinese herbs, acupuncture can be very effective in the treatment of chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and other conditions associated with aging.
Of key importance is the experience and skill level of the acupuncturist/herbalist. At Life Force Academy we rely on our expert Fiorenza Arigoni, AP 1301 and MA68450, for the application of acupuncture as a force to heal the body. Arigoni is a Board Certified Acupuncture Physician, Chinese Herbologist and Massage Therapist with over 20 years of experience. She speaks Italian, French and German.
To relieve the muscular tension and poor blood flow that causes bodily stress, an anti-stress massage seeks to improve blood flow and reduce muscular tension. When complete, the client should feel a restored sense of well-being.
To attain relief from deep muscular soreness, our massage therapist increases the pressure and focuses attention on knots known as adhesions. A Deep Tissue Massage will be more intense and less comfortable than an anti-stress massage, though pressure is always adjusted according to the customer's needs.
Similar to a deep tissue massage, a sports massage focuses on breaking down adhesions and can be used to either ready the muscles for strenuous activity or to assist the body in recovering from the after-effects of such an activity.
